Good morning to all readers of this Blog. I have a sad story to tell, but before then I’d like to make sure that you all were safe and had a sound sleep last night (15th August, 2012). Hope you slept well?

I wish I could say something positive about my night, but not after when I don’t have a mattress anymore to lay my head nor my original documents to get a job after my university degree. I wish I never ignored last night’s warning about the cosmic rays from Mars. This is so sad!

Before I get down to the story of how the inferno all started, below is a pic showing the remains of my gutted mattress and a section of my room:

It all started by blatantly disputing the validity and veracity of the warnings I got from my family and friends which came in via BBM messages, broadcasts, SMS and calls. I out-rightly argued the possibility of cosmic rays being dangerous to humans as the warning messages all said.

After several bouts of heated arguments with my flat mates, I retired to the quietness of my room, kicked off my slippers, changed into my nighties and climbed my bed in a bid to sleep off. Oh….as usual, I scrolled through my BlackBerry device to my blues folder and switched the player on repeat.

Disaster Strikes

Few minutes after I plugged my ear phones into my ears and re-positioned on my bed for better comfort, alas I was asleep. However the serenity and pleasure of my peaceful sleep was cut short prematurely as I started sensing smoke in my room.

With a choked breath and a super-alert brain I jumped off my bed to notice that the edge of my bed had caught fire – at this point the plastic of my phone had all melted making it seem that the fire started from it.

I started wailing and shouting at the top of my voice to bring my flat mates rushing in. They forced their way in through the door into my room to see what I was facing. Immediately they grabbed buckets of water and sand and helped me fight the fire…however it was already late.

So filled with rage for losing everything I had and curiosity, I just re-adjusted on my bed and turned on the lights to look at the time from my phone. It was 5 minutes to 3am. mstchewww, it was just a dream!!

The reality

Just like I did from that sick dream, wake up guys!! The text messages, BBM broadcasts, text messages and calls you received about some dangerous cosmic rays coming into earth to destroy you is all fallacy.

You only had that very educated and caring friend or family member of yours send the message to you (making you believe it was for real) because they only did what they were programmed and wired (by the actually composer of the message) to do – spread the message o loved ones out of fear of harm coming their way!

The cosmic rays BS is an old prank that dates as far back as 2008! Yeah you heard that. It’s so 4 years old. I fell for that way back then when I just finished High School – no way I’m falling for that in 2012 again!

Doubting me now? Now if only you did a little research you would have laughed your ass off after reading the cosmic joke.

Take a look at this Google search result that I dug out when I was making a research for the purpose of this blog post. Look at the dates appended to the search results which I have circled in red. What that says is that the article (about the cosmic rays) was posted on those dates.

So, the next time a friend gets telling you to turn off your phone so that some cosmic ray does not come from Mars and steal all the items in your fridge, point him to this article.

If he keeps sending you the same message after going through all the facts here, then I think it’s time to find a new friend!!
